10 Ways to Get More Money – FAST!

Let’s face it – Sometimes we need extra cash, and we need it NOW.

We don’t have time to be frugal for a few weeks saving our pennies or to set up an Online Income Stream or New Business.

Here are 10 ideas to help you generate that extra money you need, right now. Some of them require a little preparation, but all of them are likely to give you a return, if you’re prepared to give them a go. To give you further assistance, we’ve added a planning scale which is from 1 – 10, 1 being easy with little or no planning required and 10 more difficult with a fair amount of planning.  We’ve also added Approximate Preparation Time for each idea, which you can use to gauge depending on how fast you need your extra cash.

1. Sell something of Value that you own.

Planning Scale: 6     Preparation Time: 2 -8 Hours

If you have something that you don’t really need or want anymore and it’s still in fair condition, chances are someone else in the world will probably want it. eBay is such a great tool for selling your goods. It doesn’t have to be electrical goods either, second-hand clothing, antiques and bric-a-brac are all very popular items sold. You can even sell large items such as motorcycles and furniture – you simply need to specify the delivery method as ‘Pick-Up Only’ so the Auction will be of interest to people in your geographic location.

If selling items online sounds a little daunting, then the classic option of a Garage Sale is always a great way to make cash fast. If you really took a good look around your house, I’ll bet you could find lots of things that you don’t need or want anymore, which are too good to throw away. If you don’t feel you have enough stuff to offer for a Garage Sale, you could always visit some of your neighbours and see if they would be interested in having a table at your sale. You could even charge them a small fee and put it toward your Advertisement and your Cash Generation.

Or on an even smaller scale – you know that friend of yours who is always bugging you to buy your bike/guitar/playstation? Maybe now is the time to give in and sell it to them.

2. Borrow it.

If you really need the cash and you’re able to swallow your pride, then you can always hit up your family or friends for some money. If you’re considering it, then I suggest drawing up a payment plan with the option of adding interest to the borrowed amount if required. This way they will know you are serious and that you take their money seriously – -and have every intention of paying it back.

Credit Cards and Banks are always an option, but perhaps not the most desirable one and certainly they’re the least amount of fun.That is what they’re intended for however, so I suggest if you’re considering borrowing money from a Bank, Lender or by applying for a Credit Card, do you research. You don’t want to be caught out by Interest Free Periods that end within 55 Days or any fine print.

3. Have a Personal Fund Raiser

Planning Scale: 8           Preparation Time: 1-2 Days

Do you have a great home which is perfect for parties, a Pool, a Games Room or live in a great area with fabulous Restaurants and Activities? If the answer is yes to any of these questions then you might be able to organise a FundRaiser for yourself. You could explain to your friends and family what you’re doing and put on a great dinner party with some entertainment and charge a $10 entry fee. Or you could hold a Pool party with great music, sun and games and do the same. What about a Shopping Spree where you take your friends to the best places around town for a nominal fee?

The possibilities are only limited by your imagination here. If you like this idea but have no idea what you could do, put yourself in your target audiences shoes – What would my friends/family enjoy doing and be happy to pay for if they knew they were helping me out financially at the same time?

4. Find out if you have any Unclaimed Money owing to you

If you live in the United States you have the opportunity to claim money that is owed to you. How is this possible? People move interstate and don’t forward all of their mail, forget about old checking accounts and insurance policies or don’t realise they have overpaid their taxes. 5. Work Extra Hours

Planning Scale: 3            Preparation Time: 3-5 Hours*

Obviously since we’re all so busy with our work and lives already this isn’t the most ideal option, however it is still an option even if it’s just for a short amount of time. You could always take on extra hours at your current job, which could be especially rewarding if your Boss pays overtime. Or you could take on a second, part-time job. There is always some kind of part-time work available, which isn’t under any kind of contract, so when you’ve made your extra money and no longer need the job, you can leave.

If you’re considering a second part-time job, it would be wise to tailor a Resume to suit the experience you have within that industry. For example, if you’re an office assistant but want to get a part time job in Retail, list all of the skills and experience that are useful to the Retail Industry.

*The preparation time is short (ie. Resume and job applications), however the time it will take for you to get your money with this option is anywhere from 1 week up to 1 month, depending on how often your employer pays wages.

6. Ask for a Raise

Planning Scale: 2        Preparation Time: 1 Hour

If you have the guts to do it and feel that you are deserving then there’s always the option of asking your boss or employer for a raise.

Before you waltz into their office, however, a little planning will increase your chances of success. Offer an incentive for your Boss rather than just offering to do the same as what you’re doing now for more money. Your boss needs to see what’s in it for them. Can you work extra hours? Promise to bring in more clients within a set amount of time or land a large account? Displaying to your boss that you’re prepared to give something back also shows them that you’re serious about your offer and that you want to be an asset to them.

7. Busk

Planning Scale: 7           Preparation Time: 3-4 Hours

Do you have musical talent, a great singing voice or a trained pet? You can bring joy to others with these talents by busking in the street. If you live in or near a city area this is ideal, however you will have to check our your local laws for street performers. This idea may sound crazy, but to give you an idea of how quickly and easily you can make money doing it, I once made $50 in an hour from playing the Violin at my local shopping centre. Christmas is the ideal time to busk playing music or singing – people will appreciate it and love to get in the christmas spirit by giving you their spare coins. Dress up is optional, but can add greatly to your overall effect.

8. Offer a Service to Neighbours/Family/Friends

Planning Scale: 5            Preparation Time: 2-3 Hours

The idea of doing odd jobs is highly under-rated. With so many of us so busy these days, many of your neighbours, family and friends would likely be thrilled if you offered to wash and detail their car for a couple of bucks. They get the best of both worlds – a fabulous clean car and an opportunity to help you out.

Other ideas are, Lawn Mowing, Cleaning Pools, Cleaning out Gutters and Eaves, Raking up leaves, Salting Driveways or Shovelling Snow. If outdoor work isn’t really your thing maybe you could consider Bookkeeping, Making Party Invitations on the computer, Photo Re-touching/Printing, Re-organising Cupboards & Tidying Messy Rooms, House Cleaning, or Ironing.

You could create a simple flyer on the computer and distribute it to your neighbours in the street and your friends/family, nominate a fee for each type of job you offer to do and wait for the phone to start ringing.

9. Teach a Class or Seminar

Planning Scale: 9             Preparation Time: 3-4 Days

You don’t have to have a College Degree to be able to teach something to someone. If you work in an interesting job, or have an interesting hobby chances are that there are people around who will want to know how to do what you can do. If you need inspiration, take a look at your local Community Guide to see what types of classes they offer and see if you can offer anything similar. It could even be something as simple as a Cooking Class teaching your Grandma’s famous Lamb Roast. Get Creative and think about what you can offer to people to enrich their lives.

A seminar is another interesting option, and one you could conduct from your own Lounge Room. If you decide on a Topic, let’s say ‘How to throw a Party your kids will LOVE’, make a Powerpoint Presentation with some exciting images, key points and hints/tips – then all you need to do is get together a group of people who would be interested in that topic. Or, if you know the group of people you want to invite to your seminar, then you could brainstorm ideas of what you think they would be interested in learning about. If you live in a great suburban community and your neighbours are always commenting on how lovely your garden is, you could always teach them a thing or two about that.

10. Sell something you created

If you’re crafty then your creative talents could bring in some cash. You will obviously need to do some preparation and planning for this option, however, if you create something that you love doing and are going to sell it, the time spent making it will fly by.

Some ideas for Crafty Goods to sell are Handmade Christmas/Birthday Cards, Knitting – Hats & Scarves, Sewing – Clothing, Bags & Baby Clothes, Artworks, Baked Goods.To price your items we suggest following a formula similar to this:

Cost of Raw Materials + (Time x Hourly Rate) = Retail Value.

So, you need to work out how much you want to be paid per hour for your work. Multiply this hourly rate by the amount of time it takes you to create your masterpieces and add the cost of the Raw Materials. If you feel you can ask more, you could add a further mark-up to each item, like 100%, depending on the amount of work that has gone into it’s creation and it’s general value in the market. If you’re not sure what to charge for you creation, eBay is always a great tool. There are many handmade items for sale which will give you a ballpark range for your own pricing structure.

Plus Two More

Finally, there are two more options which are not officially apart of this list. The first is to ASK for it. If you believe in the Law of Attraction, then all  you need to do is intend more money to come into your life, believe it will come then be patient and wait. You must, however, make sure you’re on the lookout, because your extra money may come to you in other ways (like extra hours available at work, or a business opportunity).
