Life Quotes

With so many amazing and insightful quotes about living our best lives, I wanted to explore some of these wonderful Life Quotes in more depth. Inspiring as they are, they all hold so much more to their meaning which I find fascinating. Most of the people who are quoted here have had notable lives, so basically, they know what they’re talking about. Use these quotes as Positive Affirmations to assist the health of your thoughts each day.

“And in the end, it’s not the years in your life that count. It’s the life in your years.” ~ Abraham Lincoln

This quite is a fantastic way of saying that you could live the next 10 years over and over again – doing the same thing each day, month and year and knowing where you will be at any particular time of day, month or year – or you could choose to live 10 different years, experiencing all life has to offer and learning, changing and growing throughout that time.

Clearly the first option is the safe and easy way to live. There is no fear of the unknown or any spontaneity. You know exactly what to expect from your life because you did the same things the year before and the year before that. You could go through your life in this way with no real harm to yourself and could easily come out at the end fairly happy, however, you could also end up as an older person wondering where all the years of your life went and what might of been if you had done this or tried that.

You cannot go back and try again – this is it. There is no dress rehearsal. Make the life in your years count and you will be happy for it when you’re old and grey, just as Mr. Lincoln says.

“I like living. I have sometimes been wildly, despairingly, acutely miserable, racked with sorrow, but through it all I still know quite certainly that just to be alive is a grand thing.” ~ Agatha Christie

Sadness, Grief, Failure and Sorrow are all parts of life. Without them, Happiness, Joy and Success wouldn’t be nearly as sweet – for how can we enjoy one without knowing what the other is like?

To live is to know despair, love, happiness, anger, success, grief, joy and sorrow. Without sadness, joy would not seem so wonderful. Without failure, success wouldn’t be such a huge priority in everyone’s life. Agatha Christie recognised this and knew that life IS the good and the bad. We cannot have one without the other which is what makes life and living so exciting, unexpected, challenging and enjoyable.

“Only a life lived for others is a life worthwhile.” ~ Albert Einstein

Many would agree that the meaning of life is about what you can do for others – which will in turn provide all that is needed and wanted for oneself. The more you can give to others and provide them with the information, help, products and assistance they need, the more successful you will become. If you can devote your time to creating value in the lives of others – no matter what way that is, then your own life will be full of happiness, abundance and success.

“Life’s challenges are not supposed to paralyze you, they’re supposed to help you discover who you are.” ~ Bernice Johnson Reagon

If we are not challenged in our life, then we are not able to grow. Speak to any successful person and I guarantee that they’ll have a long list of obstacles and challenges they had to combat and work through to get to where they are now. The only difference is that they did not see these challenges as blocks in their road to success. Successful people see challenges as opportunities to learn and grow, which in turn enables them to discover more about themselves as they move along their path. The unsuccessful person allows challenges to block their path and uses them as excuses for not moving forward toward their goals and dreams. Nothing is ever easy. Challenges are put in place to test your dedication to your goals. Accept them, combat them and move on to the next. This is the only way you can learn and grow into the person you were born to be.

“Only when we are no longer afraid do we begin to live.” ~ Dorothy Thompson

Fear is paralyzing. When you let fear rule your life, you are hindering yourself from living for a bunch of ‘what if’s’ and ‘might’s’. If everyone let their fear win nothing would ever be achieved. A coward is a person who allows their fear to rule their existence. Bravery is when you acknowledge you’re afraid, however you do it anyway.

This is when you really live, just as Dorothy Thompson says. If you’re learning to surf and you are petrified of the huge waves crashing you could easily drop that surf board on the sand and waltz yourself back to the car – nothing lost, nothing gained. However, you could also acknowledge that it is really scary, but that you’re going to do it anyway. True, there’s no guarantee that you won’t get hurt, but there is also a possibility you will do great and that you will feel amazing when you’ve stood up on that board for the first time.

You will never know unless you ignore your fears and give life a go.

“A useless life is an early death.” ~ Goethe

To only react to life rather than be proactive and choose your life could be regarded as a ‘useless life’. If you are letting life pass you by, not really setting any goals or striving to make any of your dreams or desires come true then you are not truly living. Life is not only about working, paying bills and putting food on the table. Wake yourself up out of the haze and see your life for what it really is. Don’t wait for your retirement to start living and experiencing new things – it will nearly be too late by then. Do it NOW! Live for NOW.

“The universe is transformation; our life is what our thoughts make it.” ~ Marcus Aurelius

If you’re constantly thinking to yourself ‘My life sucks’, ‘I am sooo boring’, ‘I hate my life’, then the Universe will answer these requests and thoughts with circumstances, people and things to reflect this. What you think about is what you bring into your existence. Read more about making Positive Affirmations and replacing your thoughts.

“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” ~ Mark Twain

Another quote which could be a sister quote to this one by Mark Twain is ” Failure weighs ounces, but Regret weighs tons.” Unless you push yourself do try new things and see new places, you will never really live your fullest life. Taking the safe road is not such a bad thing, but it is also a reflection of not living up to your true potential. You may fail, but at least you will then know the outcome, rather than wondering twenty years from now what might have been. Don’t risk future disappointment. Ignore your Fears – It’s the only way to live.

“In three words I can sum up everything I’ve learned about life: it goes on.” ~ Robert Frost

If you have ever lost someone close to you, failed at something or gone through rough times, you will know the truth of this statement – even if at times we wish the world would just stop and stay in suspended animation. Going through these difficult times in life helps you to realise how precious it is. When things are tough, it is all a process of shaping who we are. Especially if we did not ask for the disappointment and hardship in our lives, working through it means there is a guarantee that you will come out stronger and more courageous on the other side. If you can survive and live through the difficult times, you will shape the way for a stronger and happier you in the future.

Here is a list of our other favourite Life Quotes. Use them as affirmations and get started living!

“We are always getting ready to live but never living.” ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson

“The purpose of life is a life of purpose.” ~ Robert Byrne

“To be what we are, and to become what we are capable of becoming, is the only end of life.” ~ Robert Louis Stevenson

“Life can be found only in the present moment. The past is gone, the future is not yet here, and if we do not go back to ourselves in the present moment, we cannot be in touch with life.” ~ Thich Nhat Hanh

“We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.” ~ Winston Churchill

“You can get everything in life you want if you will just help enough other people get what they want.” ~ Zig Ziglar
