Tap into your Inner Peace at Anytime

Stress, Tension and Anxiety seem to go hand in hand these days with a ‘normal’ Life. There are always times when we’re overwhelmed, disappointed, frustrated, anxious, nervous or just completely stressed-out. When we feel these emotions, we tend to focus on them, which magnifies them more, and aids in making us feel worse.
We all have within us the ability to let go, and change our focus instantly.
The following is a guide which will teach you how to change your state when you’re not feeling good and how to gain access to the peace we all have within us, all the time.

1. BREATHE - Take a Deep Breath and hold it for 3 seconds before letting it out. Repeat with your slow breathing until you feel that you heart rate and level of anxiety has started to slow down. When we are anxious and frustrated we tend to take shallow and unsatisfying breaths which actually assist in bringing tension into our neck, shoulders and chest. By releasing your breath, you are forcing yourself to begin to relax and slow down.

2. MUSIC – As you Breathe, think of your favourite song or piece of music and try to hear it playing in your head. Hum along or sing the words (if it has words). Focusing on music will shift your concentration from your anxious state to something that makes you feel good, which in this case is the song or piece of music you like.

3. VISION – Take yourself to your happy place and enjoy the scene and visions within your mind. Everyone should have a ‘Happy Place’ within their mind. It could be a scene, or a memory or even a colour. My Happy Place is a beautiful beachside Villa in the South of France on a warm Sunny day. Maybe you could make yours a scene like this that would make you feel immediately better in any situation, or perhaps a memory of a time when you were really happy and relaxed in your life. Some people respond to colour, which can also be very healing. You could imagine that you’re bathed in Golden or White light and your skin feels smooth and warm in it’s presence.

4. RELEASE TENSION – As you continue to Breathe, Hear your Music and Visualise your Happy Place the final step is to Release any Physical Tension you may be feeling. While you’re still breathing, hearing and visualising gently stretch your neck from side to side, one side at a time in a slow motion. Then gently bend your chin down onto your chest, return it to center and bend your neck backwards. Do not strain yourself! When you feel better, shrug your shoulders up and down a few times.

This exercise only takes a few minutes and you should find that by following the steps outlines above that you will feel much better than you did when you started.
